The Iowa debate

The Iowa debate on ABC was OK. Like previous debates, there are too many people on the stage. Why do we have a candidate who is polling 1 or 2%?

Sooner or later, we need to send Tancredo, Brownback, Paul, and Tommy Thompson home. I would keep Huckabee because he is making inroads with voters. I would also give Duncan Hunter another chance because he is a very serious contributor.

Beyond that, Giuliani (Rudy 2008 ) and Romney (Team Mitt ) were great. Romney had a great line about Sen. Obama:

"I mean, in one week he went from saying he's going to sit down, you know, for tea, with our enemies, but then he's going to bomb our allies," said Romney. "I mean, he's gone from Jane Fonda to Dr. Strangelove in one week."

That's good stuff. Obama should be challenged like this!

Guliani went further:

"In four debates, not a single Democrat said the word, 'Islamic terrorists.' Now that is taking political correctness to extreme," he said."

Bring it on!

McCain (McCain 2008) was a bit reserved but he said that we would never surrender:

"I firmly believe that the challenge for the 21st century is a challenge against radical extremism," McCain said."

Where was Fred Thompson? When is he going to show up?

Last, but not least, Huckabee (Huckabee 2008) had another great line about the IRS audit and the mugger. Huckabee looks to me like the perfect VP choice for any of the top three!

Overall, the candidates kept a strong position on Iraq. It does appear that the surge and good news from Iraq is uniting Republicans!
