It's time for Elvira to obey the law!

Yes, I feel some sympathy for Elvira Arellano. At the same time, I think Elvira needs to stop hiding and face the consequences of breaking the law. After all, I don't get to choose what laws to obey.

Elvira's story is a one of mistakes and more mistakes. (Illegal Alien Hiding in Church to Come Out and Lobby Congress)

She does not seem to understand that countries have laws and we are supposed to obey them:

"Arellano came illegally to the U.S. in 1997. She was deported shortly thereafter, but returned and worked different jobs, including childcare.

She moved to Illinois in 2000 because she had friends in the Chicago area and took a job cleaning planes at O'Hare International Airport.

She was arrested in 2002 at O'Hare and later convicted of working under a false Social Security number.

She was to surrender to authorities last August, but decided instead to take refuge at her church."

Now, Elvira is planning to lobby Congress to amend immigration laws.

Like so many others, Elvira is blaming the US rather than marching in front of the Mexican embassy in Washington DC or Los Pinos in Mexico City.

After all, doesn't Mexico have immigration laws too?

Aren't foreign nationals in Mexico expected to obey local laws? I obeyed Mexican laws during my 4 years in Mexico. I had to get a work visa (FM2) and pay income taxes in Mexico. I had to buy automobile insurance.

Along the way, Elvira compounded the situation by having a baby out of wedlock.

Where is the father? Why isn't he paying for her son's expenses? Why aren't more Mexican men taking responsibility for the kids dumped on US taxpayers?

I agree with It's time to get out:

"Arellano argues she should be allowed to stay because her son is a U.S. citizen, and she doesn't want to have to leave him to the care of a guardian.

But she also doesn't want to take him back to Mexico where he might lose his English-speaking skills.

Her argument weakens when we see Saul, alone, on television pushing his mother's cause, while she's holed up in the church.

It's time Arellano stop using Saul as bait -- like the shrewd panhandlers on the L parading their young for change.

The game is over. Elvira Arellano: You've pulled out all the stops, breaking the law, while eloquently stating your case. Your by-any-means-necessary moment is over.

Take your son, and start a new life in Mexico."

Thank you Chicago Sun Times!

It's time for Elvira to go back to Mexico and force her nation's politicians to do something about the country's underachievement. Elvira should challenge her nation's political class to change and allow Mexicans to live in a prosperous land. After all, there is no excuse for Mexico to be a poor country. How can a nation blessed with so many resources be so poor?

Furthermore, Elvira should identify the boy's father and file for child support in Mexico.
