Sanctuary cities must be cut off!

According to the latest Rasmussen:

"Fifty-eight percent (58%) of voters nationwide favor cutting off federal funds for “sanctuary cities” that offer protection to illegal immigrants." (
71% Favor Requiring Foreign Visitors to Carry Universal ID Card)

It makes sense to me. Sanctuary cities promote chaos because they are defying the rule of law.

Not surprisingly, the public mood is getting more and more sour on immigration reform:

"A recent survey found that
79% of voters favor strict measures requiring employers to fire workers who provide false identification documents.

Seventy-four percent (74%) also believe that proper identification should be required for anyone to rent an apartment."

Why? Because illegal immigration is chaos. You can see this chaos in our cities, school districts, hospitals, etc.

Recently Rep. Lamar Smith
wrote:

"The public officials who openly advocated the creation of "zones of protection" for lawbreakers are responsible for contributing to a flood of illegal immigrants in this country today. These policies have created an even bigger illegal immigration problem."

He is right. Sanctuary cities are a magnet for illegal immigrants, the good ones as well as the bad ones! Unfortunately, sanctuary cities are are attracting criminal elements, such as repeat offenders and gang members.
We saw this in Newark, where three good teenagers bound for college were killed by someone who should have turned over to ICE years ago! (Newark Triple Murder Fuels Debate on Treatment of Illegal Immigrants)

As I have written before, it is the duty of the federal government to protect our borders. It's time for Pres. Bush to call on some of these cities to respect law. Otherwise, he should sign an executive order denying federal funds.

Again, this is about the rule of law. We should not live in a society where people choose what laws to respect. (Mark Steyn: Speaking of sanctuary, where's ours?)

The public wants immigration laws enforced, and now! (Public Support Strong for New Immigration Enforcement)

P.S. Speaking of the 2008 election, I continue to insist that immigration is going to be sleeper issue. (Immigration In '08)
